Chloe's new owners only clipped her coat because it had been severly matted. Although you couldn't tell based on the photos, the groomers were unable to untangle the mats in her coat, so they had no choice but to clip it so that it would be able to grow back in.

They did consult a vet before putting her on a diet. Chloe had surgery when she was 18 months old for dysplasia in both hips, so it is very dangerous for her to be overweight, and she was VERY overweight. Her new owners are taking excellent care of her.Foster Dogshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09642976628852566499noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30885689.post-21104088786227992512008-02-27T16:48:00.000-05:002008-02-27T16:48:00.000-05:00Clipping or shaving a Samoyed coat is definitely n...Clipping or shaving a Samoyed coat is definitely not recommended - especially during the winter. Their coat insulates them from the heat and cold and protects there pink skin from the sun. Clipping the coat can interfere with the dog’s ability to regulate its body temperature and can have deadly consequences. Her new owners are obviously very loving, but should consider a different groomer as most professional groomers would not have shaved her. From her adoptee picture, her coat looks well groomed and her weight normal??? They should also consult a vet before putting a dog on a diet. From Chloe's shaved picture after having lost 10 lbs, she looks right on target for weight for a full grown Samoyed - about 45 lbs. I remember from an earlier blog that the other Samoyed is just a teenager, so not a good comparison for a healthy weight. Glad she’s in a good home - just want to make sure that the owners make the healthiest decisions for Chloe.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
