Check Out the Save Our Siberians Rescue Fundraising Auction!

Hey everyone,

Have you all heard of Save Our Siberians Rescue Fund? They help rescue groups that have Siberian Huskies who need a lot of medical care. They have done a LOT to help many of Harnessed to Hope's foster Huskies, so we want to help spread the word about their auction! You can see what they have listed here.

Yoji's First Week in His New Home

Click to enlargeYoji was adopted last weekend! We got an update from his new owner, here is what he had to say.

"Here are some pictures of Yoji and Sheba and a little report on them.Saturday night Yoji was a little aloof but I expected that. He and Sheba did play a few times for about 20 minutes each time but Yoji mostly wanted to check out everything in this new place he was in. He did make several rounds around the house and yard sniffing everything out and becoming familiar with his new home. He had no problems going the bed and crashed pretty hard. We all did, It was a pretty long day for all of us I think.

Sunday the 3 of us spent most of the day out in the back yard. Yoji and Sheba hadClick to enlarge several play sessions with a few naps in between. Yoji has made several inspections of the yard and seems to be pretty comfortable with the place. He did stand up at the fence a few times, mostly when a passerby was walking by or an animal was nearby in the neighbors yard but showed no signs of a desire to escape, just curiosity. He seems to be warming up to me a little more. He got a good 20 minute petting in the evening and a brushing also. He seemed to enjoy both. After the evening meal they played very rigorously. Lots of wrestling around and full tilt runs chasing each other around. Yoji is bigger and stronger then Sheba but I think she might be just a little more quiker and agile. Neither one of them seems to dominate the other. They both have some stronger traits then each other but they seem to balance each other out well.

Yoji does seem to have staked a claim under my computer desk. He likes to lay there when he's not playing or when I'm working on the computer.

Monday was Yoji's first day alone while I was at work. I did not crate him for day( very risky, I know) because I wanted to see how he would do. He was very good , didnt chew anything up or make any messes. He does seem to be very well housebroken. He does try to nose in the trash but does stop as soon as I tell him no. He was very excited to see me when I got home, lots of tail waggin and husky yippes. I do notice him approaching me for petts now. He layed beside at bedtime for some petting and then curled up my feet and went to sleep.

Tuesday was pretty much the same. He was good in the house all day and very excited today when I got home.Lots more playing and very rigorous after they eat.He is chilling under my desk now as I write.

I'ld like to thank you for a very wonderful Husky. He and Sheba have hit it off very well together and I've noticed that he's pretty affectionate when calm. He seems to like to be close to me and put his head right in my lap and gets his ears rubbed. Well thats about it for now. More pictures and letters will come to you. Thanks again!"

What a great update - congratulations Yoji!

Lucy's Adventures

Click to enlargeHere is an update from Lucy's new family!

"She's a doll - she couldn't be a better match for us. When our snowbanks here got to the 4 ft fence top at one point, the dog next door decided to jump the fence to come over, and Lucie saw her jump back. And of course as smart as she is, the next cat she saw outside the yard, she went over as well. Man, she's got the husky run - she's like a bat outta hell when she takes off (but you know that breed aspect well!), but fortunately loves the car, so my daughter hopped in the car, followed her down several blocks racing through yards. She saw the car, and ran over and jumped in. Stinker. Of course, I have two collars with ID on her, plus the microchip, but I always panic she'd get hit by a car here, especially since her ADD diverts her in twenty directions at once.

Anyway, once she figured out it was easy to get over, we started tying her again in the yard while the snow was high. My hubby has since put up another foot extension on the top of the fence (with lattice, believe it or not). It looks good, and since she can't see out that part when she jumps up, she no longer does it. She'd rather stay below in the chain link part to peruse the squirrel/cat outside activity. She minds the boundaries with our indoor cats, but any cat, squirrel, anything small and furry outside, is open game in her mind. I walk her every night, and if she sees a rock or something in a yard, she gets all excited thinking it's some creature. She's such a whack-job, she saw a squirrel walking on the wires one day when I was walking, so she prances along looking up the whole time (which looks hysterically strange), and in fact fell off the curb she was so busy NOT looking at the ground. Her growling bit is almost non-existent now. We find when she's really beat, and ready to rest, she doesn't want to be bothered (can't blame her there), and sometimes will growl if disturbed. If she does that while she's on the couch, we still make her get down, and she goes to her bed and sleeps. Otherwise, she sleeps/sits with us there, and if we sleep downstairs, she sleeps with us. We'll be taking her camping the end of May -God help the furry creatures - she won't know where to look first!"

Congratulations Lucy, you found your perfect home!

Update on Homer, now Leo

Homer's name has been changed to Leo. His new family sent us an update:

"Leo (Homer) is doing great. As we rounded our one month point, it has been trying, but now that we have him, we can't imagine a day without him. He loves all the neighbors and dogs too. He is teething, but some toys and soft ice helps that. He loves chasing the cats and they are really warming up to him as well. The vet said that there is a possibility that he may have some lab in him as well. In a few weeks we are going to start going out to the "doggie park" which is a huge fenced in park for dogs. Every where we go, we get stopped because people think he is the most adorable thing - which is true :) Just last night we were at a softball game and the
umpire couldn't wait for the game to be over so he can come over and play with him! We are always looking for updates on his mom and siblings so we can tell him about them. We always recommend Harnessed to Hope to people looking to adopt dogs because of the wonderful people and dogs involved with this agency. Thank you for allowing Leo to find us and for us to find him."

Isn't that wonderful? Congratulations to Leo!
